Contained here are a listing of species discovered in and outside of the Shybal Expanse.
Shybal Expanse
The Shybal Expanse is an area of space of indeterminate size which houses a multitude of planets, moons, and stars. Of these, thousands are M-class and capable of supporting life. Many of these have evolved to the point of becoming warp-capable, and thus eligible for first-contact, while others have not reached that particular stage yet, and hence, are protected by the first contact clause of the Prime Directive. Species of either category are arranged here, noting their history and political significance, if any.
Warp Capable Species
Aallenue-retra-tukraqus
The Aallenue-retra-tukraqus were the fourth species encountered by Captain Alexander McNeil and the USS Ishtar during the Dyson Encounter. They are heavily embroiled in the politics of the region, but remain a predominantly friendly race.
Andorians
Andorians are a humanoid race from the Alpha Quadrant. They are a war-like people, but have since dedicated themselves in promoting the United Federation of Planets. They are one of the four charter races of the Federation.
Belotrec Assemtra Karma Tucklo
The Belotrec Assemtra Karma Tucklo were the fifth species encountered by Captain Alexander McNeil and the USS Ishtar during the Dyson Encounter. They are very friendly and very keen on plants, including several illegal ones.
Betazoids
Betazoids have established themselves as a peaceful people almost identical to Terrans with the exception of their telepathic and empathic abilities.
Borolesians
The Borolesians were the seventh species encountered by Captain Alexander McNeil and the USS Ishtar during the Dyson Encounter. They are a very friendly telepathic race, who seem to be quite powerful in the region.

The Borolesians were the ninth species encountered by Captain Alexander McNeil and the USS Ishtar during the Dyson Encounter. They are a predominantly friendly species, but remain mostly a mystery.
Cardassians
The Cardassians recently established a consulate on Galen Station and have begun moving ships and manpower into the Shybal Expanse in order to expand the tattered remains of their empire.
Cheyn
The Cheyn are a huminoid race closely resembling Earth birdlife. They populate a single M Class planet in the FGC-65743 system and have made very little progress in developing warp drive, although a single warp ship has been discovered. They are comparable to pre-Third World War humanity, in so far as they live in separate nation states on the same planet and often take part in border conflicts. They have also made small leaps into the cosmos, with unmanned probes and a small dilithium mining complex on their planet's moon. First Contact has been made by the senior crew of Galen Station under the command of Captain Elliott Rema-Que'n.
Davish
The Davish were the eighth species encountered by Captain Alexander McNeil and the USS Ishtar during the Dyson Encounter. They are a religious race, who until recently were suffering from a severe genetic disorder. This disorder was cured by the Federation, which may make them more open to negotiations than many of the other species met during the Encounter.
D'Nitson
The D'Nitson are an aquatic race With their home in the Optimus system near the ISOG region of the Alpha Quadrant. They became quick allies of the ISOG and then Starfleet. They are one of few sentient races derived from fish or reptile species. They are an extremely industrious race that derive pleasure from working and mastering of trades and crafts. They are primary military and trade partners with the ISOG Alliance. First contact was made by Aris Cyan Garamonde.
Ferengi
The Ferengi are to be found wherever there is a profit to be made. This includes plying the various fruitful trade routes of the Shybal Expanse.
Horlans
The Horlans were the first species encountered by Captain Alexander McNeil and the USS Ishtar during the Dyson Encounter. They are very religious and mostly friendly towards the United Federation of Planets.
Humans
Humans (Terrans) are the most common species within the United Federation of Planets and Starfleet. Zefram Cochrane discovered warp in 2063, which made them last among the founding member of the United Federation of Planets. Their home planet, Earth, is the political and military headquarters for the Federation.
Idryans
The Idryans are a humanoid race very similar to in appearance to Humans. Their only defining feature that marks them physically different from the Human race are a pair of small horizontal ridges on either side of their eyes. Technologically, they are comparable to the Federation in the early to mid 23rd Century, placing them over a century behind the current day Federation. Their society consists of a heirachy of ruling nobles, or Elder, that oversee the rest of the populace. First contact with the Idryans was made by the crew of the USS Ishtar under the command of Commander Alexander McNeil. They should be approached with caution at all times.
KAAAARAAZZANA
The KAAAARAAZZANA were the sixth species encountered by Captain Alexander McNeil and the USS Ishtar during the Dyson Encounter. They are a non-carbon-based life-form, who seem very friendly. However, there is little confirmed intelligence concerning them.
Klingons
Klingons are among the earliest civilizations the Federation has contacted. Discovered in 2218, Klingons are among the best and bravest of warriors ever seen. With a partly exo-skeletal bone structure, Klingons are capable of comparably greater physical strength and endurance than Terran humans. Their ages-old honor system and house/lineage centered society is a throwback to the chivalry of medeival Europe on Earth, and despite their tendency towards blood and violence, the Klingons have proven to be vital in the defense of the Alpha Quadrant.
Morvinians
The Morvinians were the second species encountered by Captain Alexander McNeil and the USS Ishtar during the Dyson Encounter. They are very religious and mostly hostile towards everybody.
M'Raic
The M'Raic are considered the Orion Syndicate of the Shybal Expanse. They are a group of pirates, smugglers, and will kill whoever is in their way. First contact was made by Captain Shoa 'Hal' Cirrix, CO of the USS Osiris-B, and Group Leader Simon Black, CO of Raptor Squadron.
N'jal Kr
The N'jal Kr are a splinter of the N'jal race, which has spread and diversified around the Shybal Expanse. The N'jal Kr are amongst the closer splinters to the Crow System, populating a star cluster approximately 5.4 light years away and a few of the neighbouring systems. They are quite significantly advanced, very paranoid and extremely dangerous.
Romulans
Romulans are the major race that makes up the Romulan Star Empire, a historically powerful entity in the beta quadrant. Romulans are supposedly descended from Vulcans, sharing many physical attributes with the Vulcans; however, it is unknown exactly what they have in common due to the Romulans' reclusive nature.
Roosevelts
The Roosevelts were the tenth species encountered by Captain Alexander McNeil and the USS Ishtar during the Dyson Encounter. They are basically carnivorous teddy bears. Very carnivorous.
Shinot
The Shinot are a violent, xenophobic species which controls a large empire to the galactic north-west of the Crow System. They are the first significant threat to Federation gains in the Shybal Expanse and should not be approached whatsoever. A buffer zone has been established between Shinot and Federation space to ensure this. They were first discovered by the USS Osiris-B.
Spartuls
The Spartuls were the third species encountered by Captain Alexander McNeil and the USS Ishtar during the Dyson Encounter. They are financially driven and friendly with any species they can make a profit out of.
Terrans
Trills
Ullians
The Ullians are a humanoid race native to the Ullian homeworld. They are telepaths with a vested interest in learning the memories of other species, with the power to enhance and recover lost memories.
Velsha
The Velsha are extremely friendly humanoids who seek knowledge from all those who they come in contact with. Most of their technology is from a long dead race on many of the planets they colonize, including their homeworld. First Contact was made by the USS Osiris-B, commanded by Captain Shoa 'Hal' Cirrix, and Raptor Squadron, commanded by Group Leader Simon Black.
Vulcans
First contact with the peaceful modern Vulcans coincided with the discovery of warp drive by Zefram Cochrane, as told by the movie "First Contact". The people of Earth were very fortunate that a race as strongly pacifist and cooperative as the Vulcans were the first aliens encountered. Vulcans are valued members of the Federation, and the race boasts of many prolific scientists and valuable Starfleet officers.
Pre-Warp Civilizations
Askina
The Askina (singular, Askinon) are a race of disparate groups located in the Shybal Expanse. Their empire is spread over an area comparable to the Federation around the 23rd Century, but politically, they are nowhere near as powerful a force, owing to each star system's isolation from the others. The Askina have never developed faster-than-light travel or communications. Instead, they expanded away from their homeworld, Dataros, to colonise the rest of their star system. Huge sleeper ships were also built, carrying thousands of Askina in cryogenic storage to other habitable worlds in other star systems. First contact was made with the Askina in 2390.
Free
The Free, otherwise known as the "S'fit", are difficult to describe as a species as their home planet has been effectively destroyed. The majority of the S'fit population has been systematically eliminated and what remains is enslaved. However, small pockets of Free do remain. They are mostly under-developed as a species, having never shown an interest in space. However, they are highly advanced in other ways.
Ztifga
The Ztifga were a pre-warp culture local to the Far System. They were discovered in 2379 when a civilian colony fleet surveyed the system before moving on. First contact was made in mid 2380 by Lieutenant Commander Tane and Lieutenant, Junior Grade John Decker of the USS Osiris-B when their shuttlecraft was forced to make an emergency landing on the planet.
